Please pass the Pepto!

As much as I like the drama and intrigue of politics, it really makes my blood boil when politicians twist the words of rivals.  They don't put words into each others' mouths, they conveniently disregard words that actually come out.

Last night, during his address to the Republican National Convention, vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan all but blamed President Obama for the closing of the General Motors assembly plant in his hometown of Janesville, Wisconsin.

“Right there at that plant, candidate Obama said: ‘I believe that if our government is there to support you … this plant will be here for another hundred years.’ That’s what he said in 2008. Well, as it turned out, that plant didn’t last another year. It is locked up and empty to this day,” said Ryan in his speech.

The only full truth in Ryan's statement is that the auto plant did shut down within months of Mr. Obama's speech. What Ryan failed to acknowledge is that President George W. Bush was sill in office in December 2008 and President-elect Obama was trying to pull together a plan to help the American auto industry stay afloat and turn things around.  Here's what else Rep. Ryan CONVENIENTLY omitted from his remarks-- the full context of what then-Sen. Obama said on February 13, 2008:

Then-Sen. Barack Obama speaks to auto workers at GM
Assembly Plant in Janesville, WI on February 13, 2008.
"I know that General Motors received some bad news yesterday, and I know how hard your Governor has fought to keep jobs in this plant.  But I also know how much progress you’ve made – how many hybrids and fuel-efficient vehicles you’re churning out.  And I believe that if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years.  The question is not whether a clean energy economy is in our future, it’s where it will thrive.  I want it to thrive right here in the United States of America; right here in Wisconsin; and that’s the future I’ll fight for as your President."

Mr. Obama kept his promise to fight for Janesville and a lot of other plants and their workers, only to meet opposition at just about every turn from members of Mr. Ryan's party. Even the man Ryan is running with, who happens to be a Michigan native and a son of the auto industry, wanted to let GM and Chrysler go under and go away.  How's that for fighting to help your high school classmates, Mr. Ryan?

Don't get me wrong.  Democrats do the same thing.  My point: This type of blatant twisting of words-- LYING-- nauseates me to the point that even Pepto Bismol can't help!!! JUST TELL THE TRUTH and let the chips fall where they may.  Twisting words and outright lying just makes you look more disingenuous than you already are and pathetically desperate for power.

Oh, Good Evening!
